The National Association of Asian American Professionals is an all volunteer organization. We are always looking for people to get involved at the local and national level.

Currently, NAAAP National is looking for a few good volunteers to get involved with several projects being developed. This is an exciting opportunity to work with Asian leaders from across the nation on initiatives that will impact all of the NAAAP chapters and ventures.

As part of the of the all volunteer NAAAP-National Leadership, the National Convention Director oversees every aspect of the annual NAAAP Convention & Diversity Career Fair. The NAAAP Convention consists not only of a career fair and business expo, but a variety of professional & leadership development workshops, keynote speakers,  evening galas to honor Asian American and Asian Canadian leaders that have made significant contributions to society, and provides networking opportunities with NAAAP members and corporate sponsors from all over North America. As the one of the main revenue generators of NAAAP, the National Convention Director will coordinate efforts with local & national planning teams and strategic partners to ensure the annual NAAAP convention is a successful and enjoyable event for all.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage schedule and resources at the top level for convention.
  • Manage convention committees remotely and locally to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Manage cost of convention to maximize convention earnings.
  • Produce RFPs for outsourcing.
  • Manage external firms.
  • Manage relationship and communicate needs with hotel and other vendors.
  • Generate monthly report of convention progress and needs for the National Board of NAAAP.
  • Participation in monthly NAAAP National Board call.
  • Recruit additional personnel when need rises.
  • 10+ hours per week time commitment.
  • 20+ hours per week time commitment during May through August.

Minimal Qualifications:

 

  • Current NAAAP member.
  • Previous NAAAP Convention attendance preferably in the past 7 years.
  • Self Starter with the ability to take initiative on tasks with little or no direction.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple teams remotely and locally.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Previous NAAAP leadership role.
  • Previous event planning or project management experience with an emphasis on cost, schedule and human resource management.
  • PMP certification or PMP candidate looking to earn PDUs.

The Convention Technology Director manages all technology related to the NAAAP National Convention and Diversity Career Fair.  Responsibilities include the convention website, registration system, onsite technology needs.  This position is responsible for implementing such technologies at the national level and coordinating chapter initiatives.  This role reports to the Chief Information Officer but may also take direction from the National Convention Director.

The NAAAP National Career Center Director is responsible for managing and growing the NAAAP Career Center (http://www.naaap.org/careers). The Career Center is the premier place for employers to post jobs to our membership base as well as for job seekers to connect with companies seeking to hire Asian American candidates.

Responsibilities include managing the career center website and job engine, developing and maintaining relations with sponsors and employers, oversee marketing and branding of the Career Center, providing support for the NAAAP National Convention's Diversity Career Fair and working with our 25+ chapters to maximize the effectiveness of the Career Center.

The ideal candidate will have some experience or interest in business development and sales. Experience in recruiting and HR is not necessary however the Career Center Director will interact frequently with recruiters and HR personnel.

The CSO is directly responsible for assisting the national President and the national Board of Directors in developing the strategic direction of NAAAP.

The following national staff members report directly to the CSO:

  •     Director of Organizational Partnerships
  •     Senior Advisory Council (SAC) Liaison

The CSO is responsible for coordinating strategy development, strategic planning and strategy execution for NAAAP National, and will use Board and SAC expertise as well as corporate and community best practices and research to monitor, communicate and consult on how NAAAP programs and chapters and their respective business plans, programs and operations align consistently with the long-term strategy and mission/vision of the organization.

Chapters are critical to the future of NAAAP just as children are essential to the future of any family to thrive for generations.

The National Director of Chapter Development is key to ensuring that NAAAP chapters continue to grow to provide value to its members, corporate sponsors, and the communities they serve.

The National Director of Chapter Development is responsible for:

  • Provide high level strategic and operational support to chapters
  • Maintain and grow Chapter Development programs
  • Maintain performance metrics for Chapters
  • Monitor major Chapter activity
The ideal candidate for the National Director of Chapter Development should have:

  • Be a former chapter president, VP, or chairperson of the board of a local Chapter.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work in a team oriented environment
  • The ability to manage time effectively
  • Excellent research skills
  • Previous consulting experience
The Director of Chapter Development will report directly to the National Chief Operating Officer (COO) and may recruit and empower his/her own volunteer staff members.

Funding and contributions (monetary or in-kind) are essential to deliver value to the members, partners, and shareholders of NAAAP. Therefore establishing relationships and acquiring corporate sponsorship revenue is critical to the success of NAAAP. The National Director of Corporate Relations acts as a bridge between NAAAP and the “corporate world”.

The National Director of Corporate Relations reports directly to the National Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO).

Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for acquiring contributions from various corporations.
  • Maintaining the relationship with corporate sponsors and partners.
  • Maintain relationships with Corporate Affinity Groups or Employee Resource Groups.
  • Lead a team of account managers to perform the duties above.
  • Manage the annual Asian Corporate Rankings Program

 

Minimal Qualifications:

 

  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Must have flexible schedule. May require meetings during normal business hours.
  • Comfortable with interacting with corporate senior or executive management.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Current NAAAP member.
  • Excellent follow up skills
  • Responsive and Dependable
  • Self Starter with the ability to take initiative on tasks with little or no direction.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

The National Director of Membership Development is key to ensuring that NAAAP remains the organization of choice for professionals of Asian descent by continuously showing and proving value to its members and potential members.

The National Director of Membership Development is responsible for:

  • Coordinating strategic planning efforts with the NAAAP National Marketing team
  • Gather membership recruitment and retainment best practices from various chapters and ventures
  • Developing high level uniform guidelines for national and all local membership development strategies and operational practices while being aware of geographic differences
  • Being the single point of contact for membership development best practices by local chapters and ventures
  • Serving as a membership development advisor/consultant to all local chapters and ventures
The ideal candidate for the National Director of Membership Development should have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work in a team oriented environment
  • The ability to be a self starter and be self motivating
  • The ability to manage time effectively
  • Excellent research skills
  • Lived/worked in various geographic areas of North America.
  • Previous experience in leading a local chapter/venture NAAAP membership development team
The Director of Membership Development will report directly to the National Chief Operating Officer (COO) and may recruit and empower his/her own volunteer staff members.
The Office of Performance Management collects and records performance metrics of NAAAP-National and local chapters of NAAAP.

The performance metrics are measurements consisting of:

 

·         National Level:

o   Fundraising

o   Partnership satisfaction

o   Sponsorship satisfaction

o   Local chapter satisfaction

o   National event (leadership academy, convention, regional conference, etc) attendance and attendee/sponsor satisfaction.

o   Marketing/PR/Communications (external and internal)

·         Chapter Level:

o   Membership (diversity)

o   Fundraising (sources)

o   Programming consistent of NAAAP vision, mission, and values.

o   Event attendance and satisfaction

o   Member and Sponsor Satisfaction

o   Marketing/PR/Communications (external and internal)

Responsibilities:

 

  • Avg 5-10 hours per week time commitment.
  • Periodic communication and interaction with leaders of the National Administration and local chapters.
  • Collecting and reporting performance management statistics from local chapters and National Administration
  • Provide recommendations for performance improvements to the National Administration and local chapters
  • Must be able to attend regularly scheduled meetings.

 

Minimal Qualifications:

 

  • Current NAAAP member.
  • Excellent interpersonal or “soft” skills.
  • Self Starter with the ability to take initiative on tasks with little or no direction.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Previous NAAAP leadership role.
  • Previous organizational development consulting experience.

 

As part of the of the all volunteer NAAAP-National Leadership, the National General Counsel oversees all legal matters of NAAAP.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Represent and advise NAAAP-National on a broad range of internal and external legal matters.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations with a primary focus on IRS 501(c)(3) regulations and generally-accepted standards.
  • Serve as legal advisor or consultant to the local entities of NAAAP. 
  • Provide local ventures (start-up chapters) with information on obtaining IRS 501(c)(3) status.
  • Reviewing contracts or agreements between NAAAP and our partners, 3rd parties, vendors, or between Nationals and local chapters/ventures.

 

Minimal Qualifications:

 

  • Juris Doctorate degree and member in good standing in the state bar in which he resides
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Must have flexible schedule. May require meetings during normal business hours.
  • Comfortable with interacting with corporate senior or executive management.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.

The National Technology Director has responsibility and oversight for all technology matters at the national level.  This role includes managing the various NAAAP national websites and internal and external information systems.  This position will work with the national committees and teams to define and fulfill various technology requirements as they arise.  This role reports to the Chief Information Officer.
The Program Director, National Convention Programming is the lead person overseeing all major programming elements of the annual NAAAP conventions (& Diversity Job Fair). The individual works directly with his/her direct report(s) consisting of primarily locally sourced Convention Programming team and national counterpart, in conjunction with Convention Director(s), and the rest of local and national convention team for event/agenda coordination effort, hotel staff, and any 3rd-party event planning and post-evaluation consultant(s). The Director and his/her team plays a vital role in all facets of the planning process, including, but not limited to:
  • managing speaker/sponsoring party to NAAAP relationship to cultivate long-term commitment and interest for participation and contribution
  • maintaining and deriving sources and affiliated channels for soliciting potential speaking guests/candidates
  • oversee the blueprinting process of the agenda and other logistics of the speaking engagement activites of the Convention (workshops, keynote event presentation, entertainment, etc)
  • ensuring the overall theme integrity and messaging of the Convention from a program perspective
  • recognizing opportunity for new program element introduction and process improvement in the planning, execution and post-evaluation stages and other components related to invited speaking guests (e.g. book-signing opportunity)
The Director reports directly to the Chief Program Officer.

The Program Director, National Webinar Series is the lead person overseeing the programming of the National Webinar Series program, a monthly installment of online seminars featuring invited speakers. The individual works directly with his/her direct report(s) to coordinate, plan, and execute this program. Some key activities and objectives include:

  • managing speaker/sponsoring party to NAAAP relationship to cultivate long-term commitment and interest for participation and contribution
  • maintaining and deriving sources and affiliated channels for soliciting potential speaking guests/candidates
  • proactively soliciting speakers for future sessions
  • ensuring the overall integrity/quality of delivery and value proposition reflecting NAAAP's mission from a messaging perspective
  • recognizing opportunity for new program development and process improvement in the planning, execution and post-evaluation stages (e.g. potential sponsorship entitlement, multiple-signature series, co-partnership etc)
  • building the brand of this program and promoting public recognition

The Director reports directly to the Chief Programs Officer.
