- I [President Barack Obama] call upon all Americans to visit www.AsianPacificHeritage.gov to learn more about the history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.
What's happening in your neighborhood? Go to the Chapters' Events webpage to view NAAAP chapters' and ventures' programs in one place.
Or join Macy's, NAAAP's Convention Diamond sponsor, at one of their seven in-store Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month events. Each event will feature a performance group, author Svetlana Kim, partnership with Shiseido cosmetics, and light refreshments.
Svetlana Kim, a featured speaker at NAAAP's Convention last year, will share her inspirational story of the power of following her dreams and crushing obstacles. Kim is the author of White Pearl and I: A Memoir of a Political Refugee, which chronicles her journey as a fifth generation Korean- Soviet from Russia to the United States in the early 90's. She arrived with only one dollar in her pocket and a few words of English, found her way to Macy's Union Square in San Francisco and became a makeup sales representative and later rose through the ranks as an executive in the beauty industry. Today, Svetlana is an entrepreneur and community leader. At the following Macy's in-store programs, Kim will describe her four secrets for living a happy and abundant life.
