2008 NAAAP NATIONAL CONVENTION TO BE HELD IN LOS ANGELES
2008 NAAAP National Diversity Career Fair and Convention will be held in Los Angeles, California at the Hyatt Regency Century Park, from August 21-24.
NAAAP hosts its annual convention to foster leadership and diversity within the community and in the workplace. The convention is open to NAAAP members and the general public. The convention includes more than 20 workshops/seminars/panels, a Diversity Career Fair, an Asian Business Expo, keynote speakers, leadership training, a golf tournament, and exciting entertainment. We are expecting more than 1,000 attendees at this year’s convention.
This year's theme, "Leadership: Rising and Shining Stars," references one of Los Angeles' best known industries - Hollywood and show business. Since the last time the NAAAP National Convention was in Los Angeles in 2000, Asian Americans have made significant progress in mainstream and independent productions in the entertainment field. Nonetheless, there is still much further to achieve equality and success both on screen and behind the scenes.
Much as art is a reflection of real life, so too do the struggles of Asian Americans in the media mirror the challenges and questions facing Asian Americans in all careers and aspects of life. NAAAP firmly believes that the answer to this is leadership - learning the tools needed for excellence, being unafraid to tackle the impossible and challenge orthodoxy, and leading individuals, companies and communities to new heights. This year's convention will spotlight the shining stars of Asian America - celebrities, corporate trailblazers and unheralded everyday heroes – and give them a stage to tell their stories to guide the next generation – our rising stars.
