2010-2012 Verizon Scholarship
The National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) is pleased to offer college level scholarships to outstanding Asian Americans for 2011-2012.   Four students will receive $3000 in scholarship money for a total of $12,000 donated by the Verizon Foundation.

The previous 2010 winners were:

  • Hoang Nguyen, Drexel University, accounting
  • Jason Chow, Cal Polytechnic Pomona University, management computer information systems
  • Tony Kim, University of Houston, electrical engineering
  • Jiayi Wang, University of Washington, marketing and finance
  • Chaettha Charumaneeroj, NYU Poly Tech
  • Erika Sanchez, Seattle University
  • Cathy Lam, University of Denver, biology
  • Minhchau Dunh, University of the Pacific, environmental law

Scholarship winners will be recognized locally by the nearest NAAAP chapter as well as at the 2011 NAAAP National Convention in Boston, MA (August 11-13, 2011) at the World Seaport Hotel.

NAAAP Scholarship applications for 2011-2012 will be open November 8, 8:00 AM –December 10, 2010, 5:00 PM EST.

Applications should be submitted via email to scholarship@naaap.org, if you are unable to submit an application via email please contact us for alternative arrangements.

The minimum eligibility criteria for the NAAAP Scholarship fund are consistent in line with NAAAP’s focus on personal, professional, and community leadership, and Verizon’s desire to promote higher education in the communities it serves.

Scholarship Applicants Must:

  • maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 scale)
  • have graduated from high school in the U.S. after attending at least 3 years
  • reside in the U.S. or Puerto Rico
  • be a current or rising Junior or Senior enrolling at a college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico
  • demonstrate leadership accomplishment and/or potential

Preference will be given to individuals who are at least one quarter Asian by heritage, students with disabilities, and/or students with the following majors:

  • Accounting
  • Business Administration 
  • Computer Electronics  
  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Information Systems  
  • Computer Programming
  • Computer Science 
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Finance
  • Hospitality
  • HR Management
  • Industrial Engineering 
  • Information Technology  
  • Management Information Systems
  • Marketing 
  • Mechanical Engineering 
  • Network Administration 
  • Retail Management 

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of NAAAP’s executive leadership team with no conflict of interest with the applicant pool. Winners will be selected by January 1, 2011 and announced shortly thereafter. Scholarships will be awarded at $ 3000 per scholarship to 4 individuals in 2011.
