DESCRIPTION:SAPAAC presents StopAAPIHate\, a program for the entire Stanford Alumni community during Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month. \nJoin us for a conversation about hate crimes and the current state of Asian Americans with Dr. Russell Jeung\, Stanford alumni and AAPI hero. \nDr. Russell Leung (Stanford ’84) received a BA in Human Biology and a MA in Education from Stanford University. After working in China and in the Mayor’s Office of San Francisco\, he obtained his PhD in Sociology from the University of California\, Berkeley in 2000 and began teaching at Foothill College and later\, San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies Department in 2002 where he continues today.  In 2020\, Dr. Jeung launched Stop AAPI Hate\, to track Covid-19 related discrimination.  Now a household term\, StopAAPIHate is a rallying cry that is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. \nThe discussion will include:  \n\nWhat is StopAAPIHate?\nAllyship on a personal and societal level\nAAPI visibility in the digital age (technology’s role in stopping hate crimes and spreading the word)\nDr. Leung’s AAPI Heritage Month message \nQ&A\n\n\nStanford alumni register here >> https://groups.stanford.edu/networks/events/25314   \n \nOthers register here >>  https://bit.ly/stopaapihate523 \nThe zoom link will be sent 2 days before the event. \n
