NAAAP Welcomes You to Celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Us
Happy Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month! For the month of May, we’re celebrating and honoring Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders in the United States and Canada and reflecting on the histories, accomplishments, and diversity of the APHI community.
APHI Month originally started in 1977, when New York representative Frank Horton introduced House Joint Resolution 540, which proposed proclaiming the first 10 days of May as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. Then, during the George H. W. Bush administration in 1992, May was designated as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month and later renamed as AAPI Heritage Month in 2009.
Now, in 2025, we continue to celebrate the many contributions that Asians, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders have had on culture and society, such as science, technology, education, and medicine, literature and art, sports and recreation, government, law, and politics!
As we celebrate our accomplishments, we must continue to break barriers, challenge negative and harmful stereotypes, advocate for legislative change, and inspire the next generation of API leaders.
NAAAP alongside the city chapters, invites you to celebrate and uplift API individuals and communities with us for API Month and throughout the year!
